ULTIMET alloy

ULTIMET alloy was developed to meet the demand for a material with high erosion and corrosion resistance and high strength. The material also needed to be machinable with conventional techniques. Like Stellite, ULTIMET alloy is based on a binary Co-Cr system. Alloys based on this system possess very high resistance to galling, cavitation erosion, slurry erosion and water drop erosion, even at low carbon contents and low hardnesses.

The corrosion-resistant Ultimet alloy (UNS R31233):

  • Stellite alloy-like wear resistance and Hastelloy alloy-like corrosion resistance in one material
  • Good weldability
  • Hardly wears, resembling Stellite alloys
  • Corrosion resistant, in which it resembles Hastelloy
  • Successfully used in the form of forging products

Product description Hastelloy CRA - Hastelloy Ultimet alloy

To keep the important elements for corrosion resistance in solution, the carbon content has been kept low, in contrast to the Stellites. As a result, its resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion is similar to that of HASTELLOY alloys. Initially, ULTIMET alloy was developed as a malleable alloy; however, commercial success gave rise to its use as a casting alloy and overlay material. Castability is excellent. Solution annealing after casting can often be omitted.

Relative to many other traditional wear-resistant materials, ULTIMET alloy has good weldability. Preheating of the substrate is not necessary because hot cracking is not a problem thanks to the relatively high ductility. ULTIMET alloy can be successfully turned, milled and drilled provided the right tools are used. Due to its high strength, Ultimet alloy offers high resistance to material degradation and should therefore be machined in a solution annealed condition.
machined. ULTIMET alloy is used in valves, pumps, fans, agitators, nozzles, plungers and so on. In short, when corrosion and erosion play a role simultaneously, ULTIMET offers a cost-saving solution.
